Washington | Yakima Valley | 100 Points
This is now the second edition made of this wine following the incredible 2019 bottling. The 2021 ‘Mizunara’ is the only wine of its kind, as the barrel costs a whopping 8 thousand dollars including shipping. As one of the most expensive wines in Washington State, it is also one of the finest that you will find. Cedar and exotic spices combine in this downright explosive nose with red currants, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco and hints of fresh sage. Seamless and elegant, with serious savory notes, refined tannins and downright insane flavor range, you won’t find anything like this in the world. Try to procure a bottle if you can, as there are only 100 cases made. Drink 2023-2043- 100
2023 Marsanne-Roussanne - 94 Vinous
The 2023 Marsanne-Roussanne is rich yet vividly fresh with a cascade of young peaches, apricots and hints of raw almond, all complemented by exotic spice. Nearly oily in texture, this washes across the palate with notable weight yet remains vibrant. A tinge of saline minerality and ginger enhances it ripe pit fruits. The 2023 finishes long and staining, with a tug of crunchy tannins and a minty herbal resonance. The Marsanne-Roussanne was refined in 320-liter cigar-shaped French oak barrels for ten months. It has a large-scale feel, but its balance is impossible to deny.
2022 Viognier - 95 Vinous
The 2022 Viognier is wonderfully perfumed, mixing fresh apricots with mint leaf, sage and dusty florals. It's soothingly round yet crisp and vibrant in feel, with silken textures and masses of ripe orchard fruits complemented by a tinge of sweet spice. Minerality comes through on the finish, taking on a slight tropical mango flair without compromising its perfect balance. Simply stunning.
2022 Syrah Weather Eye Vineyard - 97 Vinous
The 2022 Syrah opens with mentholated freshness, blending rubbed sage with hints of incense, pine shavings and dusty blackcurrants. This is savory and deeply textural, with masses of mineral-infused red and black berry fruits. It comes across as nearly salty in character as liquid lavender tones and spice embellish the finish. A pleasantly bitter tinge resonates over a bed of fine-grained tannins, while an herbal thrust and notes of clove leave the senses saturated. In a word: spellbinding.
2022 Cabernet Franc - 96 Vinous
A totally classic bouquet of mint leaf, bell pepper and crushed raspberries meets a beautiful complement of white smoke as the 2022 Cabernet Franc blossoms in the glass. This washes across the palate with a contrasting blend of sweet spices and tart wild berry fruits, taking on a tactile mineral crunch and depths of exotic spice toward the close. Silky within, yet grippy and sinewy through the finish, this finishes impossibly long and staining.
