Betsek hill is a celebrated First Growth vineyard located in the Mád basin. Its volcanic bedrock is overlaid with rich clay mixed with dark, almost black humus soil and chalk-white minerals. Royal Tokaji owns 15ha of south-facing parcels planted with Furmint and Hárslevelű wines with an average age of around 30 years
Our Betsek Furmint 2017 is an elegant wine, well structured with a firm backbone of crisp acidity balancing the ripeness and fresh pear, peach and apricot flavours. Well-integrated acidity and a delicate oak touch lead to a long, complex finish.
The 2017 vintage began with a cold winter followed by a slow but steady rise in temperature and a brief, pleasant spring, allowing a good fruit set. Summer was relatively dry with warmer than average temperatures leading to an earlier than usual ripening, excellent acidity and a wide range of flavours. An outstanding vintage with beautiful balance, poise and depth.
Furmint grapes were harvested at the end of September. Whole bunches were pressed and fermented in Zemplén oak barrels. After fermentation we matured the wine for six months in 300 litre barrels.
Serve at a cool temperature with Asian food, white meats, fish and pasta dishes.
